Coplay council seeks replacement

Only six months after being appointed to Coplay Borough Council, Marvin Mann is resigning.

Mann was appointed to council Feb. 14 by a 5-1 vote with Councilman Bill Leiner Jr. dissenting. Mann was to serve until the end of 2013, running for election if he wished to retain the seat longer.

At Monday's workshop meeting, council acknowledged receipt of a letter from Mann stating his intention to resign for personal reasons.

Council plans to vote to accept his resignation at the next meeting Tuesday, Aug. 14, and to advertise for a replacement. By state law, a new council person must be appointed within 30 days of accepting Mann's resignation.

Mann was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Joseph Bundra.

Bundra resigned from council to accept an appointment Jan. 25 to fill the unexpired term of former Mayor John Milander, who resigned in December 2011.

Mann first served on Coplay council after being elected to four-year term in 2007. He ran for re-election in 2011, losing in the Democratic primary. He subsequently ran unsuccessfully in the general election as a Republican candidate.

The borough is accepting applicants to fill Mann's seat. Candidates have until 3 p.m. Sept. 4 to put in an application. For further information, call the borough office at 610-262-6088.

Mann could not be reached for comment.
