Arner makes Cup team
Whitehall sophomore Rachel Arner will play on this year’s Lehigh Valley Carpenter Cup softball team, coached by Blake Morgan.
The Carpenter Cup is a Philadelphia Phillies sponsored tournament, which will be played the week of June 19 at FDR Field in Philadelphia, featuring teams comprised of high school sophomores and juniors from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
“I’m looking forward to getting more known and more interviews so colleges can look at me,” Arner said.
Whitehall softball coach Alexis Berg-Townsend is the one who told Arner about Carpenter Cup.
“She said it’s a really good way for me to get known, and when I told my parents, they said, do it. The stuff we did at try outs was familiar, but all the girls were good players,” said Arner. “They were really good.”
Arner will play second base.
“It’s my favorite position. I’ve played there since I was little, and I can cover a lot of ground,” she said.
Also on the Lehigh Valley roster are Kelly Dulaney and Chelsea Morgan of Parkland, Sky Esterly, Daphney Adams, Paige Hahn, and Krista Colussi of Nazareth, Jess Indelicato and Alexa Pannucio of Bethlehem Catholic, Alexis Ruth, Hannah Palinkas, and Maddy Clark of Emmaus, Heather Alich of Northampton, Dani Barnes of Southern Lehigh, and Courtney Grundhauser of Easton.
Assistant coaches are Ed Stinner, Ricky Sechler, Kyle Stinner, and Jim Haney.
“I just hope to communicate the same things as last year,” said Coach Morgan. “The team, the community, and the character of the kids. It’s important to give back. The girls play softball all along the east coast, all over the country, and that’s great, but they started here. It’s nice to travel to Philadelphia and represent here.”
Lehigh Valley’s first game is scheduled for June 19 at 11 a.m. against Jersey Shore.
