Friday, August 11, 2017 by Peter Car pcar@tnonline.com in Sports

District XI will be bringing their own Hall of Fame to town when the inaugural class will be inducted on October 14, 2018.

News of the announcement came last week as The District XI Hall of Fame will include athletes, coaches, officials, and contributors and will be reflective of those individual’s contributions on the District XI high school level.

Postgraduate, collegiate, or professional performance will not be assessed in selecting Hall of Fame recipients.

“The creation of the District XI Hall of Fame will allow our member schools and constituents to honor the outstanding legacies of so many of our great high school athletes and contributors,” said District XI chairman and Whitehall athletic director Bob Hartman. “Being able to honor those who have given so much to athletics in District XI throughout each of our counties is really special. I am really excited for the announcement of our first class in the summer of 2018.”

Hartman plans to have a website for the hall of fame, as well as a permanent, physical site(s) to honor members, with one of those venues being Pottsville’s Martz Hall.

Nominations for the District XI Hall of Fame will be through District XI member schools, officials’ chapters, and the District XI Committee.

Nominations will not be accepted from the general public. The nomination process will begin on July 1 with forms available on the District XI website, www.districtxi.com
