Commissioners OK bid for firetruck for Egypt station
Whitehall Township Board of Commissioners, at its Monday meeting, approved a bid for another piece of firefighting equipment, keeping with its program to ensure departments have the equipment needed to protect township residents and their property by retiring older vehicles and replacing them with updated ones.
Commissioners accepted a $594,615 bid for a new Pierce Enforcer pumper truck that will be used by Egypt Fire Station.
In giving their approval, commissioners said the firetruck is available for purchase through a recognized and approved commonwealth bidding process under the Co-Star program.
The bid was reviewed by the township, fire department and Egypt station officials, who determined the vehicle met the bid specifications and “provided the most economical response to the township’s needs.”
A portion of the cost for the new firetruck will be borne by Whitehall Township Firemen’s Relief Association.
West Catasauqua Fire Company recently took ownership of a new 2017 Pierce firetruck. On Saturday, the fire company held a washdown ceremony, officially bringing the new truck to its station and entering it into service. (See photos on page A2.)
