Whitehall cross country runners, Devon Roberts and Caleb Staub, placed 25th and 57th, respectively, for the Zephyrs at the East Penn Conference Cross Country Championships on Tuesday at Bethlehem Municipal Course at Illick’s Mill.

Roberts was the first Zephyr to finish for the girls with a time of 21:13.

“I took a more relaxed approach so I could speed up after the first mile. It’s better for this course to go out slower and then slowly increase your speed. I think it worked for me better,” Roberts said. [The hills] were pretty bad but you just have to power through it. The last 600 was pretty challenging, but I think I did pretty well overall.”

Autumn Dragovits finished in 21:49, Juanita Flores’s time was 22:35, Lindsay Solderitch finished in 23:00, and Rachel Herr’s time was 23:35.

Casey Cunningham’s time was 24:27, Emily Soldridge finished in 25:53, Brianna Uhnak finished in 26:51, Madison Gaston’s time was 27:24, and Audrey Fedor’s time was 28:38.

Whitehall girls were 10th.

Whitehall’s boys placed 15th overall in team results.

“My first mile and a half I was executing the strategy I had set up before the race, but then as soon as I came up over the hill, I was having some bad shin splint pain and it kind of caught up to me,” said Staub, who was the first Zephyr to finish for the boys’ team with a time of 18:34.

“I was trying to make sure I had a decent rest of the race without injuring myself to any further extent. I had a lot left at the end. Our training has been really good with our kicks at the end.”

Jonathan Cordero’s time was 20:15, Michael Bogucki’s time was 20:58, and Andy Chung’s time was 21:21.

Nick Demjan finished the race in 21:26, Muhammad Azim finished in 21:35, Graydon Schmeckenbecker finished in 21:55, Jacob Schlosser’s time was 22:21, Esmael Mallej’s time was 23:05, and Trevor Sargent finished in 23:12.

Easton’s boys’ and Parkland’s girls’ were overall winners for the EPC meet.
