Flores takes 33rd at districts
Whitehall High School cross-country runners competed in the District XI Class 3A Cross Country Championships last Wednesday at Bethlehem Municipal Course.
The girls’ meet was won by Easton, and Whitehall placed eighth.
Juanita Flores placed 33rd overall and first for the Zephyr girls.
“I had a different mentality since the last race, stronger than last week. I knew I wanted to finish first for Whitehall in our last race,” said Flores.
Flores’s time was 21:45.
“[At the end] I was trying to get as many girls as I could. I think I passed a few,” Flores said. “I was happier because I feel like I did way better than last week [at leagues], but I still feel like I wanted more.”
Autumn Dragovitz placed 35th with a time of 21:54, and Devon Roberts was 36th with a time of 21:56. Lindsay Solderitch had a time of 22:07, Rachel Herr finished in 23:36, Casey Cunningham’s time was 24:13, and Emily Soldridge’s time was 25:35.
In the boys’ race, Easton won the meet, and the Zephyrs placed 15th.
Caleb Staub placed 58th overall and first for the Zephyr boys.
“Overall, it was a much better race than last week, but still, kind of a disappointing end to the season. Not where I wanted to be,” Staub said.
Staub’s time was 18:45.
“My shins didn’t feel bad at all this week. I was much more comfortable,” he said. “The hills? Those are always rough. I was pretty sore. I had some left [at the end], but once I was done I was ready to keel over and stop right there.”
Jonathan Cordero finished the race in 20:15, Andy Chung finished in 20:58, Mike Bogucki placed next in 20:58, Nick Demjan was right behind in 21:14, Grady Schmeckenbecher finished in 21:50, and Muhammad Azim finished in 21:52.
