Chambers plan mixer to collect items for Coplay Food Pantry
Did you know that the Borough of Coplay has had an active food pantry since 1993, aimed at alleviating food insecurity for Coplay residents?
The pantry is here to help you in times of need. It is located on the lower level of the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St., Coplay.
Food distribution is 8:30-10 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month. Jodi is in charge of the pantry and can be reached at 610-262-0928.
Jodi does receive many donations from various groups throughout the year. She sorts the donated food and assembles the bags and boxes that the residents receive. She has many single people and some families that she helps monthly. Jodi and the residents are extremely thankful for the community’s huge support.
What Jodi urgently needs right now is peanut butter and jelly, canned fruit, spaghetti sauce (no boxes of spaghetti), macaroni and cheese, canned vegetables and baked beans. She said the smaller-sized cans help the individual consumer, while she uses the larger cans for families.
Other items that can be donated include canned pasta, cereal, Hamburger/Tuna Helper, healthy snacks, instant mashed potatoes, juice, noodles/pasta (no spaghetti), pancake mix and syrup, pasta/rice side dishes and soup. Monetary donations are also accepted; checks can be made payable to the Coplay Food Pantry.
There will be a “Party 4 a Purpose” happy hour mixer at Samuel Owens Restaurant and Bar, Chestnut and Second streets in Coplay, 5:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 17. This mixer is jointly hosted by both the Northampton Area and the Whitehall Area Chambers of Commerce to raise money and collect food items for the Coplay Food Pantry.
This event is open to anyone — residents, family, colleagues, etc. It is free to attend; however, canned items and/or monetary donations will be collected at the door. Also, Samuel Owens will donate 10 percent of the proceeds from drinks and food purchased toward the Chambers’ efforts to support the food pantry.
Please help the Coplay Food Pantry either by coming to the mixer or donating directly to Jodi. Thank you for helping and caring for people who truly need your help.
