McNeill will complete term of late husband

In a special ceremony at the state Capitol Jan. 2, state Rep. Jeanne McNeill, of Whitehall Township, was sworn in to represent the Lehigh Valley’s 133rd Legislative District.

McNeill won a Dec. 5, 2017, special election to complete the term of her late husband, Dan, who died Sept. 8, 2017.

The oath was administered by state Supreme Court Justice Kevin Dougherty as family and friends looked on.

McNeill becomes the 48th female currently serving in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.

“It’s still a shock that we lost Dan, but I’m ready to continue his legacy of bettering the lives of the residents of the district. I will continue his fight for working families, seniors and women’s rights, against discrimination of any kind and the right for the physically and mentally challenged to have the same opportunities as the rest of the residents of the commonwealth.

“I’m also committed to addressing the opioid crisis that is plaguing our state and taking more lives, young and old, every day,” McNeill said.

The 133rd Legislative District office remains at 1080 Schadt Ave., Whitehall, and is open 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The phone number is 610-266-1273.

“I’m fortunate to have knowledgeable staff staying on board who are eager and willing to help people with all of their state-related concerns, whether they are simple or complex,” McNeill said.

The 133rd Legislative District includes Catasauqua, Coplay and Fountain Hill boroughs as well as the Lehigh County portions of Bethlehem and Hanover Township and parts of Salisbury and Whitehall townships.
