Coplay Public Library: Library has special hours June 14

Wednesday, June 13, 2018 by The Press in Columns

Summer hasn’t officially started, but schools are out, the weather is warmer — and who could wait for that first water ice or ice cream?

Mark your calendars for upcoming library events.

The library will be open noon-5 p.m. June 14 due to SPARK training.

No fines will be charged for items due June 14. Don’t forget you can use the drop box located outside the library to return materials if the library is closed.

Some libraries in Lehigh and Carbon counties have already migrated to this system, and we will join them June 28. Other area libraries will implement the system in the next few months.

One of the goals of this state initiative is to offer patrons easier access to a wider variety of materials.

We appreciate your patience while we learn to use the new system and procedures.

Ready to rock? Whether you dance to ’50s classic rock or enjoy pop/rock, this year’s summer learning program, Libraries Rock, has something for all age groups.

We’ll have a kickoff event June 16. Register 11 a.m.-3 p.m., and stay for a presentation of Disney’s “Oliver & Company.”

Earn a raffle ticket, spin our prize wheel, do a music-related craft or choose from a variety of other fun activities. Families are encouraged to participate during the program.

Can’t make the kickoff event? No problem. You can register after June 16 whenever the library is open.

Summer hours will start June 18: noon-7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays; 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fridays; and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.

Why wait for the weekend for pizza? Domino’s Pizza, 971 Main St., Northampton, has generously offered to run a fundraiser for the library June 20.

The shop will donate 20 percent of that day’s profits to the library — no voucher required.

Join us 6 p.m. June 20 for Instruments — The String Family.

The Lehigh County Conservation District will be at the library 1 p.m. June 21 to present Buckets Full of Nature: Wilderness Rocks!

Join us for free movie Monday June 25 for a screening of “School of Rock.” The movie will begin 5 p.m.

Game night will be 5-7 p.m. June 25.

Try your luck on a new game or pick up pointers from Scrabble experts. Many games will be available, or bring your own.

The library presents World Beats 6 p.m. June 27.

Any students in grades 6-12 who are interested in becoming part of our “volunteen” program and working with the children to plan activities should stop by the library and talk to a staff member.

This is a great way to give back to your community and to fulfill service hour requirements for school or church.

We are accepting donations for our October book sale. We regret that we can no longer accept VHS tapes, textbooks, encyclopedias, Reader’s Digest condensed books or any materials that are torn, dirty or damaged by mildew or smoke.

For your safety, we ask that you drop your donations off any time while the library is open.

Keep up with all the library’s activities, including the summer program, on our website, coplaypubliclibrary.org.
