John H. Marakovitz, 95, formerly of Coplay, died Oct. 4, 2018, at Whitehall Manor. He was the husband of the late Catherine A. (Breitfeller) Marakovitz.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late John J. and Mary (Stubits) Marakovits.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and a veteran of World War II. He received a Bronze Star Medal with the 324th Infantry.

He was a welder and fitter for 42 years at the former Bethlehem Steel until he took retirement in 1987. He was an Electrolux salesman until the age of 90.

He was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, Coplay.

He was a member of the Coplay American Legion Post 426.

He is survived by a son, Michael of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; a daughter, Monica and her husband Theodore N. Halkias of Bath; two brothers, Joseph and his wife Cindy of Bethlehem and James and his wife Carol of Northampton; two sisters, Anna Feichtel and Theresa and her husband Gary Renner, all of Northampton; two granddaughters, Rachel and Natalie; and a great-grandson, Ivan.

He was predeceased by a brother, Stephen; and two sisters, Helen Keeney and Mary Schwartz.
