The Rev. Edward W. McElduff
The Rev. Edward W. McElduff, 96, pastor emeritus at St. Nicholas Parish, Walnutport, died at his residence Oct. 21, 2018.
Born in New York, N.Y., he was a son of the late John and Mary (Boyle) McElduff.
He attended Brooklyn Prep School, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Woodrow Wilson High School, Camden, N.J.; and St. Joseph College, Philadelphia. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook.
He was a lieutenant from 1943 to 1946 in the U.S. Navy.
He was ordained to the priesthood May 1953. He served as a parochial vicar at Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Shenandoah; St. Mary Parish, Beaver Meadows; St. Aloysius Parish, Pottstown; Notre Dame Parish, Bethlehem; and Sacred Heart Parish, West Reading. His first pastoral assignment was St. Richard Parish, Barnesville. He was then named pastor at St. Nicholas Parish, Walnutport, where he served until his retirement in June 2001. He was an associate professor at Marian High School, Hometown.
He was a member of the Social Action Bureau Advisory Board, East Schuylkill Deanery.
He is survived by a sister, Patricia Garrahan of Havertown; a niece, Mary Patricia Garrahan-Masters; a nephew, Donald Garrahan; grandnieces; grandnephews; and a caregiver, Pamela Gerlog.
