Coplay: Students to be confirmed

Alfred A. Schlert, bishop of Allentown, will celebrate the Mass of Confirmation 4:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 4 S. Fifth St., Coplay.

The sacrament will cover the parishes of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Egypt; St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Stiles; and St. Peter, Coplay.


Coplay Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Feb. 12 in council chambers at the municipal building, 98 S. Fourth St.

The borough is accepting applications for seasonal positions, including pool manager, pavilion cleaner and lifeguards. The deadline is March 30. Applications can be picked up at the borough hall office.


The borough is introducing a drug collection bin in the municipal building lobby, next to the police station.

Materials accepted include prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and samples, vitamins, prescription ointments, prescription patches and pet medication.

Materials barred include syringes, sharp objects, medication from clinics or businesses, lotions or liquids, cans, inhalers, hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans and thermometers.

Items can be dropped off 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.


The former silk mill and banquet hall at Ninth and Oak streets, which has been vacant for years, is undergoing renovations.

The new occupants, it was said, is converting the interior to a karate studio and wrestling ring. Further details will be provided later.
