Volleyball starts season with 4-0 mark
The Whitehall boys volleyball team recorded two more wins, allowing them to keep pace with Emmaus as the two teams without a conference loss so far this season.
They defeated Easton and William Allen to boost their record to 4-0. They didn’t drop a set to either opponent. In fact, the Zephyrs haven’t dropped a set to any of their league opponents so far this season.
They began the week by traveling to Allen on Monday evening to begin a slate of four games that are on tap for this week. They caged the Canaries, winning 25-9, 25-10, 25-12 for their fourth win of the season.
Once again, they were led by Joseph Herman who registered 13 kills. Dylan McGinley powered seven kills from his outside hitter position, while middle hitter Alex Khouri also finished with seven kills.
Libero Aziz Atiyeh had 13 digs in the victory, while Ricky Melosky had 28 assists and eight aces.
Melosky’s service game stared to emerge last season as a powerful weapon and it’s continued this season.
Head coach George Cowitch has encouraged his players to stay aggressive from the service line. If they hit it long and lands out-of-bounds, he’s OK with that approach as long as they’re looking to be aggressive with their serves.
Last week, Whitehall defeated Easton by identical scores, beating them 25-16 in all three games. Joseph Herman stuffed the stat sheet with 13 kills, four blocks and three aces. Alex Khouri had 11 kills for the Zephs, while Dylan McGinley had a good all-around game, registering eight kills, six digs and three aces. Additionally, Ricky Melosky finished the game with 35 assists.
The Zephs resumed action with a game against Pocono Mountain East on Wednesday, and then will face Northampton at home on Friday, followed by Tunkhannok on Saturday, also at Zephyr Gymnasium.
