Hokendauqua: Holiday program planned for Dec. 12

Wednesday, December 11, 2019 by The Press in Columns

There is a Whitehall High School Christmas program scheduled 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3355 MacArthur Road.

Come celebrate the season with this special performance.

Hokendauqua Park & Playground Association announces Operation Santa Claus will visit Hokendauqua starting noon Dec. 15.

Santa’s escort will be Hokendauqua Fire Company, so if you hear the sirens, come out and say hello. Santa and his helpers will be handing out oranges and bags of candy.

The last day to drop off gifts is Dec. 13 at the Hokey tree farm, located at the football field. Make sure the gift is wrapped and contains the recipient’s full name and address.

Santa will not exit his sleigh during stops, so if you are expecting a delivery, have everyone out front to receive their gifts or to take pictures with Santa.

There will be two Santa teams this year. Additional information and Santa trackers can be found at hokeypark.com.

First Presbyterian Church of Hokendauqua, 3005 S. Front St., welcomes the public to a Victorian Christmas open house 1-4 p.m. Dec. 15. The open house commemorates the 150th anniversary of the construction of the church.

“With this being the 150th anniversary of our church building, we decided we wanted to celebrate by bringing back the glory days of a Victorian church Christmas,” said the Rev. Christine Kass, pastor of the church.

In addition to Victorian Christmas decorations, tours of the church and the singing of traditional Christmas hymns, the church will have displays of historic items. Guests will also enjoy hot mulled cider and Christmas cookies.

Call the church office at 610-264-9693 for more information.

A Whitehall-Coplay Hunger Initiative community meal will be held 4-6:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Whitehall Bible Fellowship Church, 3300 Seventh St.

For more information, call 610-434-8661.

St. John’s United Church of Christ, Mickleys, 2918 MacArthur Road, invites the community to its annual Christmas cantata set 10:30 a.m. Dec. 22.

St. John’s UCC will be holding a Blue Christmas/longest night service 3 p.m. Dec. 22. Those who find the holidays a difficult time — going through a divorce/separation, death of a loved one, unemployment or depression — are welcome to join the congregation for this worship service.

This service allows for the expression of grief and pain, as well as an opportunity to focus on the promise of hope.
