Whitehall Township Public Library: Sign up now for adult reading program at Whitehall library

Wednesday, January 15, 2020 by The Press in Columns

The adult winter reading program continues until Feb. 22. The theme this year is “Books Grow in the Snow.”

Any adult 18 years and older may sign up at the front desk or online. To participate, register with your name and phone number, pick up a reading log, list your authors and titles and submit the reading log by Feb 22.

There will be an additional reading challenge attached to the log for anyone who wants to participate.

The wrap-up party will be 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Feb. 25. There will be prizes for anyone who reads one book or more.

The third Monday open mic and jam will be held 6:30 p.m. Jan. 20.

Thank you to Rocking the Valley Online Radio and Earl Andrews for their support.

Entertainers interested in performing three songs or a 15-minute set are asked to sign up 6-6:30 p.m.

Musicians, singers, poets, comedians, actors, writers and storytellers are invited to come show off your stuff, or just come and be part of the audience!

Join us for the third Tuesday movie night 6-8 p.m. Jan. 21 to watch “Dora and the Lost City of Gold.”

In this film, Dora, a teenage explorer, leads her friends on an adventure to save her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost city of gold.

The library will be hosting family board game nights 5:30-8 p.m. Jan. 22 and 29.

Turn off the electronics, come on in and play some old-fashioned board games with other patrons at the tables in the reference area.

All ages are welcome, though we ask parents to stay with children under the age of 12.

The What Are You Reading Now? book club meets 1 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month. This month, the club meets Jan. 28.

Patrons are invited to chat about whatever books they are reading at the moment — the ones you loved, the ones you hated and everything in between.

The library now offers a community jigsaw puzzle table for adults. Patrons are invited to spend some time in the library and help complete the puzzle.

The library currently seeks 300- to 1,000-piece jigsaw puzzle donations for adults to work on. Donations of puzzles are accepted year-round at the library.

Once a jigsaw puzzle has been completed, a new puzzle will be in place.

Have some fun and thank you to those who donated puzzles.

Would you like an easy way to help the library? Purchase a Giant Food Store bag between now and Jan. 31, and the library will receive $1 for each bag purchased through the Giant Bags 4 My Cause program.

Each bag has a tag on it that must be registered; you can drop off the tag at the library and we will do it for you. You can buy these bags at 2641 MacArthur Road, Whitehall.

Call the library at 610-432-4339 for more information on any of our programs. We have the newsletter and calendar on our website, whitehallpl.org, and copies at the front circulation desk.
