Coplay council makes 2020 committee assignments
At its Jan. 14 regular meeting, council President Louis Bodish set committee assignments for the 100th session of Coplay Borough Council.
Councilwoman Janet Eisenhauer will continue as finance committee chair, Mark Molitoris will chair the public buildings committee, Bodish will continue with the public works and streets committee, and Steve Burker will continue as chairman of the parks and recreation committee.
Dave Royer was appointed as the liaison representative with the Ironton Rail Trail Oversight Commission.
Coplay is also in discussions with Megan Beste, district director for U.S. Congresswoman Susan Wild (D-7th). Beste offered assistance for upcoming borough projects. Beste and members of council will meet to develop a list of projects and determine funding that is available at the federal level.
Lehigh County Executive Phillips Armstrong emphasized the need to be a part of the 2020 census.
“It is important that everyone fully participate. The data that is collected is used to set programs at all levels of the government,” he said.
Bodish addressed a comment on the borough’s Christmas nativity scene. The borough was alerted by a Wisconsin-based group advocating the separation of church and state that the borough’s nativity scene violated existing judicial decisions regarding religious displays.
Past Supreme Court decisions have put in place a set of practices forbidding any religious displays on government property.
