Douglas Wiltraut has received the Robert Sanstrom Prize, a Gold Medal, and $5,000, as an honorarium, for his painting, “Fading Away” (2018, egg tempera on panel, 22 in. x 33 in.) at the 65th Annual Exhibition of the National Society of Painters in Casein & Acrylic (NSPCA) held at the Salmagundi Club, New York City.

10th annual InVision is set

The month-long 2019 InVision Photo Festival begins 6- 9 p.m. Nov. 1 as part of Southside Bethlehem’s “First Friday,” ArtsQuest’s Banana Factory Arts Center, with three exhibitions and opportunities to create artwork, view demonstrations and attend artists’ talks.

“The Lehigh Valley has an incredibly rich photographic community and artistic heritage, which InVision has celebrated for 10 years now,” says ArtsQuest Director of Visual Arts Hillary Harper.

Matthew Blum ‘Windows’ in Baum exhibit

Photographer Matthew Blum’s “Windows of the Past: Lehigh County” opens Oct. 24 in the David E. Rodale Gallery, The Baum School of Art, Allentown.

Views of 17 historic buildings captured by Blum’s camera lens will be on view through Nov. 21 when a closing reception is scheduled 6 - 8 p.m. to coincide with Allentown’s “Third Thursday.”

Kacper Abolik in Baum exhibition

Celebrating celebrity and other subjects, Emmaus-based artist Kacper Abolik’s exhibition, “Year of the Dog,” continues through Oct. 18 in the David E. Rodale and Rodale Family Galleries, The Baum School of Art, Allentown.

The abstract painter’s work includes bouquets, stylized copies of famous artwork, and portraits of famous people.

His recently-created cityscape of Allentown is on display. “Allentown Center City,” (2019; mixed media on glass; 19.25 in. x 14.75 in.) provides an energetic nighttime view of the monument at Hamilton and Seventh streets.

Spotted Lanternfly pinned down in PSU LV community art project

Dixon is recruiting area organizations to help with what’s billed as a “Community Public Art Project.”

Dixon, a Virginia-based multidiscipline artist, has a background in working with insects. She first considered using bees for her project.

After being told about the Spotted Lanternfly infestation in Pennsylvania and, more recently, in New Jersey and some other nearby states, Dixon concluded that the colorful, non-native pest should be the theme for the installation.

The project can be seen as raising awareness about the Spotted Lanterfly infestation in the region.

Baum School faculty, staff display art in latest exhibit

A “Third Thursday” opening reception will be held 6-8 p.m. Aug. 15 for the “Faculty & Staff Exhibition,” which continues through Sept. 11, David E. Rodale and Rodale Family Galleries, The Baum School of Art, Allentown.

Instructor Dana Van Horn has several works in the exhibit, including a watercolor of two seagulls, a small oil of a white pig in mud, and a large oil portrait of his adult son.

Last ‘Self-Portrait’ exhibition in Bethlehem Town Hall Rotunda

The Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission’s “Fifth Biennial Self-Portrait Exhibition: The Last Picture Show,” an exhibition of works by 40 Lehigh Valley-based artists and non-artists continues through Aug. 8, Rotunda Gallery, Town Hall, Bethlehem.

Richard Begbie, James A. DePietro, Barbara Kozero and Vince Gentilcore curated the show, and provided works of their own. Artists, musicians, educators, and area residents who support or influence the arts were invited to participate.

World-class photos at Theatre514 Gallery

Globetrotting fine-art photographer Jacqueline M. Lewis has 27 images from her 25 years of travels in “A Passport to World Heritage Sites,” through through July 31, Theatre514 Gallery, Civic Theatre of Allentown.

Lewis spent the greater part of two years going through her photographs, researching the sites and editing the information that accompanies each image. She believes the pictures and text in the series can serve as an “educational social studies tool.”

Artists three at Muhlenberg College

“Femi and the Collection,” “Corporeal Landscapes” and “In search of” are concurrent exhibitions by three Lehigh Valley artists through Aug. 1, Baker Center for the Arts. Muhlenberg College, Allentown.

“Femi and the Collection,” 20 mixed media pieces by Femi J. Johnson selected from his ongoing “Abstract Story-Scapes” series, is in Martin Art Gallery.

Palette Club exhibit at Penn State LV

The Bethlehem Palette Club’s “All-Member Exhibition” is back for a second year in Penn State Lehigh Valley’s Ronald K. De Long Gallery with 34 non-juried submissions, concluding with a closing reception, 1 p.m.-3:30 p.m. July 27.

“This is the best space we’ve had for it,” says Exhibit Chairperson Pam Baylis. “We’ve been very lucky. We have had two years in a row here.”

The PSU Lehigh Valley gallery affords exhibiting three-dimensional works.
