Yard sale planned at Egypt park

The Egypt Memorial Park will be hosting its annual community yard sale 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 12.

At Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, vacation Bible school will be held 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 14-18. The theme this year is "Weird Animals," a habitat filled with Bible-learning experiences.

Senior Citizens is 45 years strong

The Coplay Senior Citizens recently celebrated the 45th anniversary of the organization at a dinner held at the Coplay Mannerchor. Members gathered for a special noontime meal to observe the milestone event.

The organization currently boasts 100 members.

The founding members were led by John Messenlehner, who formed the group to brighten the lives of retired residents in the area. The original charter members numbered only eight.

Church to host spaghetti dinner

Egypt Community Church, 4129 South Church St., will be hosting a spaghetti dinner and Chinese auction 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, April 12. The cost of the meal will include beverages and dessert. There is a discount for seniors (60+). Tickets can be purchased at the door. Takeout orders will also be available. Proceeds from this fundraising dinner will benefit the church's many missions. Three WHS students advance to state skills competition

More than 400 Lehigh Valley high school students competed in 54 hands-on skill and leadership competitions recently during a SkillsUSA Showcase of Skills. The event provided opportunity for some talented technical and career education students to be judged on their skills.

The participants from Whitehall High School also attend Lehigh Career & Technical Institute in Schnecksville.

Mayor Ed Hozza outlines plans for 2014

In his State of the Township Report for 2013, Whitehall Township Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. reviewed the accomplishements of last year but also forcasted plans for 2014.

"When we look back at the year 2013, the theme would be another year of road and bridge construction," he said. "[PennDOT's] Route 145/ MacArthur Road Safety Improvement Project and the Route 22 and Route 145/MacArthur Road Interchange Project ... affected just about everyone living, working and shopping in Whitehall Township."

Laurel Fire Co. to host bingo

The Laurel Fire Company is gearing up for the annual adult bingo held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.

Tickets include 20 games of bingo and refreshments.

Also in Cementon, the Cement Belt Fair committee has started making arrangements for bookings and shows.

Anyone interested in participating in the fair this year should contact 610-657-7986.

The fair will be June 23-28 this year.

With an enlarged vendor area, all crafter and vendor applications will be considered.

It's time to sign up for Egypt and Cementon spring sports

The Egypt Park Cobras are holding spring ball sign-ups on three Saturdays. Interested youth athletes and their parents should go to the Egypt Memorial Park pavilion 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 18 and 25 and Feb. 8.

Children in pre-kindergarten and up are qualified to participate. Parents of those who are new to the organization this year should bring a photocopy of the child's birth certificate to verify their age.

Santa Claus to visit homes in Cementon, appear at party

The Laurel Fire Company is sponsoring an Operation Santa Claus Saturday, Dec. 21.

Cementon and North Coplay parents wishing to have Santa deliver a gift to their child that day should drop off the wrapped gifts at the fire company 4-11 p.m. tonight, Thursday, Dec. 19, or 4 p.m.-midnight tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 20.

The gift should be labeled with the child's name and address.

Santa will be riding on a fire truck to deliver gifts to children Dec. 21. He will make an appearance at the fire company's members-only kids' Christmas party beginning at 1:30 p.m.
