Cement Belt Fair opens Monday

The Laurel Fire Company and Cementon Park are gearing up for the 65th annual Cement Belt Fair 6-11 p.m. June 24-29.

In addition to rides, food and live music, IronPigs mascot Ferrous will visit Monday. A glow-in-the-dark Zumba-thon is set for 8-9:30 p.m. Monday. Kids' night is Tuesday and will feature a petting zoo and a magician. A reptile show takes place Tuesday and Thursday. Circus acts are set for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Fireworks will be Saturday at 10:30 p.m.

Students shine at Donley Awards celebration

Five local students from Whitehall, Northampton, Catasauqua and Lehigh Valley Christian high schools are among the 29 graduating seniors who are recipients of the 2013 Donley Awards for Excellence.

The Lehigh Valley area students were honored at a celebration held April 15 at the Best Western Plus Lehigh Valley in Hanover, Northampton County.

The awards are made in honor of Edward Donley, former chairman of Air Products and Chemicals Inc., and are presented to students selected for outstanding academic performance as well as leadership and community service.

Egypt festival to bring on the fun June 1

The Egypt Memorial Park will be having its annual festival on Saturday, June 1.

The day kicks off at 10 a.m. with a parade down Main Street.

After that, the day continues with great food by Geaker's Tacos (including tacos, burgers, hot dogs, fries, pierogies, and more), children's games and music.

Beer and wine will also be available for purchase.

Steel Creek Country Music Band will perform from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Ardvarks will perform 3-6 p.m. and Alias will perform 7-10 p.m.

Facials to be offered at luncheon May 13

A widows luncheon will be held at Egypt Community Church 11:30 a.m. Monday, May 13. Participants are invited to bring a bag lunch. Desserts and drinks will be provided.

A free facial will be offered by Mary Kay representatives to the first 12 who request one. If you would like to have a facial, call Sue Teideman at 484-547-3057 to register.

All are welcome to attend, whether or not you desire a facial.

It will be held in the fellowship hall of the church, located at 4129 S. Church St., Whitehall.

Egypt church to host tea social

Egypt Community Church, 4129 S. Church St., will be hosting a Women's New Life Banquet and Tea Social on May 4.

A catered meal with beverages and dessert will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The event will include door prizes and butterfly favors.

The guest speaker will be Miriam Rodriquez.

To purchase tickets in advance, call the church office at 610-262-4961 for cost information and to make your reservation. Tickets will not be available at the door.

Sites, events set to recycle electronics, hazardous waste

As springtime brings warmer weather, area residents may turn their attention to cleaning out garages, sheds and other storage areas on their properties.

When discarding stored items, residents must now observe new prohibitions on curbside disposal of hazardous waste and old electronics items.

Items such as cleaners, batteries, electronics and chemicals may not be tossed in with the regular trash. They must be discarded at designated sites.

Northampton County will host a hazardous waste drop-off event 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. June 1.

The Shepherd of the Hills Youth Group will be having their annual roast beef lunch on April 14 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Lunch includes roast beef, homemade mashed potatoes, vegetables, rolls, dessert and beverages.

Ham raffle set for Sunday

The Laurel Fire Company Easter Ham Raffle is set for 2-6 p.m. Sunday, March 17.

Twenty hams will be given as prizes, with many more raffle items offered throughout the day.

Tickets may be purchased at the fire company bar or by asking a member.

Refreshments and one meal are included with the price of the ticket.

Groups announce upcoming events

There will be a roast beef dinner at Egypt Community Church, 4129 S. Church St., on Saturday, Feb. 23, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tickets will be on sale at the door and takeout meals are available. The cost of the meal includes beverages and dessert.

Proceeds from the fundraising dinner will benefit the church's many missions. The snow date is March 2.
