The Whitehall cross country season is inching closer to the post season races, and recently the team took part in their first EPC meet, which was at the Allentown Lehigh Parkway back on Sept. 11.
The girls lost three of the meets with two very close losses to Nazareth, 27-30, and Northampton 27-28.
Unfortunately, this seems to be a trend as of late for the Zephs.
“Seems like the last couple years the girls have close scores or ties with these two teams,” said head coach Mike Lelko.
The girls also lost to Easton 21-39.
Whitehall competed in the 40th Annual Centaur Invitational last weekend.
Whitehall had runners in the girls and boys varsity, girls and boys sub varsity and freshman race.
Autumn Dragovits medaled in the race and took 24th place representing the Zephs. She had a time of 21:47.02. Pine Grove’s Christina Difalco won the girls varsity race with a time of 19:46.74. Devon Roberts was 26th for the Zephs in 21:59.8
For the boys, Caleb Straub led the way taking 81st with a time of 20:21.8.
Weather continues to change schedules for league playoff games this week.
Here’s the latest as of Wednesday afternoon:
The District 11 track and field meet is still on for Wednesday, May 16, for day one with day two scheduled for Thursday, May 17. Both days take place at Whitehall High School with action beginning at 3 p.m.
Thursday will be a busy day for area baseball and softball teams:
The wait was over pretty early on Thursday night all throughout Whitehall - Saquon Barkley is headed to the New York Giants.
The Giants used their first round pick, second overall, to draft the former Zephyr and Penn State running back. The Giants love of Barkley was probably one of the worst-kept secrets in the National Football League heading into draft night. The only question was what were the Browns going to do with the first overall selection.
Whitehall AD Bob Hartman annouced that due to road conditions from Winter Storm Riley, Friday’s Northeast Regional Wrestling Tournament will be moved to all day Saturdary at Liberty High School.

The Zephs took part in their final regular season meet at Parkland Tuesday, and will next get ready for the EPC meet on Oct. 17 and districts on Oct. 25. Both meets take place at Bethlehem Municipal Golf Course.
Head coach Mike Lelko said Juanita Flores and Caleb Staub have both been the top consistent runners for the girls and boys cross country teams this season.
The Whitehall boys soccer team got a couple of huge scoring efforts which produced victories.
The Zephs beat Lehighton 9-0 as well as Nazareth 6-0 in a couple of recently games. The team also fell to Emmaus 3-0.
Whitehall scored five goals in the first half on the road against Lehighton, then added four more in the second half.
Kresstoph Whittick scored first on an assist from Aziz Atiyeh. Atiyeh then found the back of the net on the next two goals for the Zephs. Atiyeh would score the team’s eighth goal and also added another assist for a big day in the score book.
