The Northampton Football Booster Club will hold a designer purse bingo Sunday, Sept. 27 at the American Club of Coplay pavilion, 300 Cherry St., Coplay. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the games begin at 1 p.m.
Scrabble night, popular at Coplay Public Library, will be held 5-7 p.m., Monday, Sept. 28, at the Fifth and Center streets location.
The library is also accepting donations for its October book sale but no longer accepts audio cassettes, VHS tapes, textbooks or encyclopedias.
Coplay Community Days had record crowds at its festival, which ran the last weekend in August, beginning Friday evening at the Coplay Parkway with the Aardvarks on stage and continuing day and evening on Saturday and Sunday. The concerts featured a mix of rock, country and polka.

The annual “Light Up Your Neighborhood” is being observed Friday, Sept. 11 in the borough in observance of the horrific morning when thousands of lives were lost by terrorists commanding commercial jet planes. Residents are encouraged to place luminaria along their walkways and porches at dusk.
Egypt Community Church is hosting a Fall Holiday Shop 10 a.m-3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 12. Vendors representing a number of companies will display their wares under one roof, and most will have cash and carry items available.
Lunch will be available for purchase, and there will also be a bake sale and raffle.

In my last column, I wrote about the trials and tribulations the Northampton Area School Board confronted when a new senior high school was constructed in 1961. This was the third high school to be built to serve area students.
Education in the borough can be traced to a log school built in 1793 on what is now Dewey Avenue. The first high school was called Alliance High School in 1902. With the advent of the cement industry, a new high school was constructed on the corner of 18th Street and Lincoln Avenue in 1910.
