AARP to meet today in Coplay

AARP Chapter 3115 will meet at noon today, Thursday, Oct. 3, at the American Club, 300 Cherry St., Coplay.

Refreshments will be available between noon and 1 p.m.

Flu shots will also be given.

Rob Ballonoff will entertain with vocals and acoustical guitar.

New members are welcome.

Hokendauqua Park & Playground (HPPA) boys and girls basketball registration will be held at the Hokendauqua American Legion, 3739 American Legion Drive, Whitehall, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26; Tuesday, Oct. 1; and Tuesday, Oct. 8.

Coaches and those interested in coaching are asked to attend the Oct. 8 meeting.

CAPA to host youth basketball program

The Cementon Athletic Park Association's new basketball program is available to all boys and girls in kindergarten through the second grade.

The 2013-14 basketball season will run from the beginning of November to the end of January.

Sign-ups will be held in the Cementon Park meeting room 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 28, Oct. 5 and Oct. 19.

Practices will be held at the Cementon Park building and multiple gyms on the Whitehall-Coplay School District campus. Days and times are to be determined.

St. John's basket bingo set for Oct. 4

St. John's United Church of Christ, 575 Grape St., Whitehall, will hold a Longaberger basket bingo Friday, Oct. 4.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7 p.m.

The event will feature 20 games, three specials and a Chinese auction.

Food will be available to purchase.

Proceeds will benefit the church's general fund and Phoebe Ministries.

Tickets will be sold in advance for a discount but will also be available at the door.

To purchase in advance send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to the church.

Celtic Classic is fun autumn festival

If you are looking for something fun to do next weekend, plan on stopping by the Celtic Classic in nearby Bethlehem.

The festival runs from Sept. 27-29.

There will be highland games to watch and great musical entertainment, too. Also, interesting ethnic foods will be available for purchase.

Activities planned

Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will observe Harvest Home Sunday, Sept. 22.

Members of the congregation will be bringing offerings of nonperishable foods to church that day to be donated to the Whitehall Food Pantry at St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

Also at Shepherd of the Hills this month, rehearsals for the chancel choir, handbells and youth choir will resume after the summer hiatus, as will Monday and Wednesday morning and Monday evening Bible study programs.

Children beginning third grade will be presented with Bibles at Sunday worship Sept. 29.

Support the Zephyrs tomorrow

Now that Labor Day has come and gone, we are moving full speed into autumn.

Football season is upon us, along with all fall sports. Most football enthusiasts will undoubtedly be watching high school games and tuning in via television to college and professional games.

Our own Whitehall Zephyr varsity football team will travel to Bethlehem to take on the Liberty High School Hurricanes tomorrow at 7 p.m.

Come out and support the Zephyrs and enjoy the football action!

Thursday, Sept. 5 – 5-7 p.m., Lehigh Valley Easy Pages "Back to Business" mixer at the Ramada.

Wednesday, Sept. 11 – 11:45-1 p.m., membership luncheon featuring Pennsylvania Chamber President Gene Barr at Iron Lakes Country Club.

Monday, Sept. 16 – 10:30 a.m., Saladworks grand opening and ribbon cutting, 2419 MacArthur Road. A portion of the purchases that day will benefit the Whitehall Food Pantry.

The Fullerton American Legion Auxiliary 367 will install officers for 2013-14 at 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at the post home, 609 Fullerton Ave., Whitehall.

District President Cathy Olker will serve as the installing officer.
