Next month all eyes are on groundhog

We have almost made it through the month of January and we are about one third of the way through winter.

Stay tuned for Feb. 2, when we find out Punxatawney Phil's prediction regarding an early spring or six more weeks of winter.

Although we have been fairly lucky with low amounts of snowfall thus far, surely many folks will hope Phil does not see his shadow so we have hope of an early spring.

Super Bowl parties are in the process of being planned. The big game, Super Bowl XLVII, will take place in New Orleans, La., on Sunday, Feb. 3.

Be careful this winter season

Thursday, January 10, 2013 by The Press in Columns

Now that the holidays are over, we are left contending with a blustery, cold winter.

Stay warm and take breaks when shoveling or snow-blowing to avoid health issues. Remember to look out for your elderly relatives and neighbors, too. Keep pets indoors to ensure their warmth and safety.

Include charity in holiday prep

As the month of December progresses, the countdown to the Christmas holiday continues.

About 10 days are left to prepare.

Also, this is a great time of year to remember those who do not have as much as we do and could use some help this season.

Donating to the local food bank is a great way to share the holiday spirit with others. Supporting one of your favorite charities is also a welcomed and appreciated gesture this time of year.

Knowing you have helped your fellow man also gives you a wonderful warm feeling in your heart.
