Virginia “Ginny” Mae (Gower) Beck, 91, of Allentown and formally of Kunkletown, died April 12, 2019.

She operated three restaurants in the late 1960s and was a waitress for many years in the Lehigh Valley. She worked for Rite-Aid for 23 years, until retiring at age of 80.

She was a volunteer at Lehigh Valley Active Life, Allentown, for many years. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Allentown. She was the coordinator of picnic and entertainment activities for the Towne House Apartments residents, where she lived for 11 years.

Dennis C. O’Brien Sr., 81, of West Catasauqua, died April 9, 2019, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Muhlenberg. He was the husband of the late Susan D. O’Brien.

Born in Northampton, he was a son of the late George and Alfreda (Schaffer) O’Brien.

He was in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Boston, during peacetime, and was awarded the Royal Order of the Blue Nose in 1957.

He was a dock worker for Roadway Express, Tannersville, for 12 years before he retired in 1998. He worked previously for Atlas Cement Company for 25 years.

Carolyn “Carol” A. (Reimer) Frey, 79, of Northampton, died April 10, 2019, in her home. She was the longtime companion of Roger Behler of Northampton.

A lifelong resident of Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Myrtle and Elwood Reimer.

She worked earlier in life at Miller’s Diner. She was a custodian in the Northampton School District until she retired after 20 years of service.

Robert A. Remer, 77, of Northampton, died April 13, 2019, at ManorCare, Bethlehem. He was the companion of the late Dorothy Schonerberger.

Born in Allentown, he was a son of the late John and Hilda (Unger) Remer.

He was employed by the former A&B Meats for many years before it closed. He retired from Larson Manufacturing.

He is survived by two sons, John and Robert; a daughter, Jill and her husband Timothy Strella; a daughter-in-law, Toni Remer; four grandchildren, Kelly, Robert, Nicole and Kyle; and three great-grandchildren, Robert, Ava and Emma.

Irene Taylor Holman, 83, of Bath, died at home April 7, 2019. She was the wife of Rockwell Holman.

Born in Pascagoula, Miss., she was a daughter of Charles Houston Taylor and Gussie Elizabeth (Parker) Taylor.

She was a 1953 Pascagoula High School graduate. She graduated from the University of North Florida, where she majored in journalism.

She was an office assistant for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans; the office of the Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Pascagoula; and for law offices in the Lehigh Valley.

Antoinette R. Beers, 62, died April 1, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital-Anderson campus. She was the wife of David D. Beers.

Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late Phillip and Elaine (Zellers) DaMore.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Elliott P. of Walnutport; two sisters, Christine DaMore of Bethlehem and Denise Reppert of Northampton; and two nieces, Angela and Andrea.

Mary “Mitza” M. Filipovits, 92, of Northampton, died March 31, 2019, at St. Luke’s Hospital, Bethlehem. She was the wife of the late Joseph Filipovits.

Born in Northampton, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Mulzet) Geosits.

She worked at Cross Country Clothes for 36 years.

She was a member of Queenship of Mary Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She sang on the Hungarian choir for 15 years and on the English choir for 10 years.

Eugene O. Schaffer, 83, of Schnecksville, died March 27, 2019, in his home. He was the husband of Catherine H. (Nemeth) Schaffer for 58 years.

Born in Orefield, he was the son of the late Charles and Leah (Rauch) Schaffer.

He was a sheet metal technician at Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown, for 30 years before retiring in 1991. Since his formal retirement, he was employed part time in the postal room of the former Meridian Bank, Allentown, and as a custodian at Neffs National Bank for 12 years before retiring.

He was a member of Queenship of Mary Church, Northampton.
