State Sen. Lisa Boscola, D-18th, recently announced the awarding of $69,000 in competitive grants to local career and technical schools for the purchase of new equipment aligned to training students in high-demand jobs.
Christian Jetter, of Whitehall, a ninth-grader at Mercersburg Academy, was named a commended scholar for making the honor roll (all grades of 85 or above) during the fall term.
Woman’s Club of Whitehall has named Nashelit Ochoa as the Girl of the Month for December 2018.
She is the daughter of Ms. Patricia Jaramillo and Mr. Elias Ochoa, of Whitehall.
Ochoa has earned high honor roll for all marking periods.
She is a member of SERVE Club (president), Art Club (secretary), Leo Club (president), Interact (president), London Club and German Club.
She is president of National Honor Society and belongs to Mu Alpha Theta and the Science and English honor societies.
At the Jan. 14 Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting, the board approved a graduation contract with Lehigh University to hold graduation 7 p.m. June 3 at Stabler Arena, Bethlehem.
The board approved field trip requests by Samantha Neas, Whitehall-Coplay Middle School science teacher, for the middle school Science Olympiad students to travel to Garnet Valley High School Jan. 27 to compete at the Garnet Valley Invitational. Her request for the Science Olympiad team to travel to and compete in the Science Olympiad competition at Juniata College April 26 and 27 was also approved.

Whitehall-Coplay Middle School student Maycie Dreisbach was named a winner in the PBS39 Artist of the Month Contest for 2019. She won for painting.
This annual contest showcases young artists from the Lehigh Valley and gives them the chance to be featured by PBS39 on air, on Facebook and on the station’s website.
At the Whitehall-Coplay School Board meeting Jan. 14, board members were thanked for their dedication and support in recognition of School Board Appreciation Month.
There will be a spirit day at Gockley Elementary School Jan. 16. The theme is “snowman day.”
