Northampton head football coach Kyle Haas understands the impact and the ripple effects of his team’s recent East Penn Conference (EPC) North title.
“Winning a championship is huge for the school and the community,” said Haas. “There hasn’t been one in a long time.
“Our younger kids are working harder to get on the field. They want to be part of the success. For us, it really was a big boost of confidence.”
The Konkrete Kids (8-1) are ready to take the next step when...
With the Lehigh Valley Phantoms well stocked with young, exciting talent and the Philadelphia Flyers off to a 1-4 start, changes came quickly to ignite the parent team with some youthful exuberance.
Joel Farabee and Mikhail Vorobyev were recalled by Philadelphia on Sunday, while Carsen Twarynski was loaned to the Phantoms.
Farabee, who is just 19 and has a grand total of four professional games under his belt, was off to a quick start with Lehigh Valley, scoring three goals and...
Liberty Quarterback Dallas Holmes totaled four touchdowns in the Hurricanes 52-27 victory over Whitehall. The game was filled with mistakes and big plays, though, from the start it was apparent whose night this was at BASD Stadium.
“Dallas has been great as a senior leader this year,” said head coach John Truby. “Our season has not gone the way that we were hoping, and thanks to guys like Dallas and other seniors they have kept us working hard.”
At the 8:00 mark in the first...
Since the grouse, rabbit and squirrel season opened last Saturday, the third part of small game opens this Saturday (Oct. 26) for pheasants, often referred to as long-tails. A reference to the long tail feathers of a male cockbird.
If a cockbird can be flushed, the cackle and burst of feathers is exciting and when not anticipated, a bit startling for the hunter. But it’s a nice rush to experience.
When I was a preteen, I’d tag along with my uncle and grandfather when they...
Well, Week 10 is finally here. The last week of the regular season is upon us without much fanfare in the District 11 postseason. Most teams are already qualified, but Week 10 is more about the rivalries with Bethlehem taking center stage this weekend.
Bethlehem Catholic hosts Central Catholic in the Holy War on Friday night and then the greatest spectacle of the high school season kicks off at 1 p.m. on Saturday at BASD with Freedom taking on Liberty.

The Zephyrs’ bid to topple Parkland in the opening round of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference boys soccer playoffs gained some early steam, but the Trojans took control in the second half to earn the victory.
It didn’t take too long for forward Jacob Gier to stake the visiting team to a 1-0 lead, and that held up through most of the first half until the Trojans were awarded a penalty kick at the 3:53 mark as Bryce Shalbert’s low shot slid past Justin Mattison for the equalizer....
As the Whitehall field hockey team heads into the postseason, they’ll be relying on the strength of a strong senior class to help them advance through a tough field of competitors.
Two of those seniors who will help them hopefully navigate upward through the brackets in pursuit of a district championship are Joyce Lu and Hallie Kern. The two defenders have been paired together since seventh grade. I guess it’s safe to say that they’re joined at the stick.
Lu, who co-captains...
It was a positive end to an otherwise challenging year for the Whitehall girls volleyball team as they defeated Saucon Valley in their final game of the season.
The Zephyrs swept the Panthers on their home court, showcasing a well-balanced attack that had them winning points at the net and the service line.
One of those players who played a big role in helping them net their third win of the year was senior Olivia Ballard. Ballard’s fingerprints were all over the match. She...
Regarded as one of the top receivers in the Lehigh Valley, Whitehall’s Allen Negrete has been living up to his reputation all season.
Through eight games, Negrete leads all receivers with 51 catches for 611 yards for a 11.9 average per catch with seven touchdowns. He also tied the school record for receptions (10) in one game.
Yet, his success among some other’s has not been able to equate into success for the Zephyrs this season.
Whitehall (0-8) has allowed 40 or more...
