Via announces 2020 All-Stars

The 45th Annual Via All-Star Basketball Classic is set for Saturday, March 28 at Northampton Community College.

Super Saturday will include four all-star basketball games featuring the top senior players from the Lehigh Valley area. It begins at 10:30 a.m. with the North vs. South girls game, followed by their boys counterparts at noon.

After the 1:30 Special Olympics Shoot Out, the West vs. East girls (2 p.m.) and boys (3:30 p.m.) games will finish off the day.

The Zephyrs went into Parkland’s gymnasium last Friday night and grabbed that spot on their own, defeating the Trojans for the second time this season with a 41-39 victory that punched their ticket to the postseason dance.

The Whitehall wresting team’s climb through the District XI AAA Team Championships was halted by Freedom last Thursday, and after a final dual meet to close out the regular season, they’ll be looking to make their mark in the individual tournament.

Phantoms looking to make playoff push

The Phantoms went through the first three months of the season without shutting out an opponent. In that stretch, their opponents shut them out three times, including once in back-to-back games.

The East Penn Conference boys and girls basketball semifinals and championship games will take place at the PPL Center in Allentown this year.

The boys semifinals are slated for Monday, Feb. 10, at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with the championship game on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m.

The girls semifinals are set to for Tuesday, Feb. 11 at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. with the final taking place at 6 p.m. on the 13th as well.

Outdoors: Anglers no longer need to display license

During their recent business meeting, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission approved the removal of their long-standing and traditional regulation that requires anglers display their fishing license on an outer garment while fishing.

The new ruling replaces that regulation and now follows a general possession requirement, which would require anglers to only have the license on them while fishing and present the license to a PFBC law enforcement officer upon request.

The District 11 wrestling tournaments kick off this week with Thursday’s 3A action taking place at Liberty and Northampton.

Top-seeded Nazareth will wrestle at 7:30 p.m. Thursday night at Northampton against the winner of the eight-nine matchup between Easton and Emmaus. At the bottom of the bracket, second-seeded Northampton will kick off at the same time as Nazareth, where they’ll meet the winner of seventh-seeded Stroudsburg and tenth-seeded Blue Mountain.

The Eastern Pennsylvania Conference announced the pairings for the wrestling championships.

The event will take place at Easton Area Middle School on Saturday, Jan. 25.

Cost for admission is as follows: adults $6, students $3, senior citizens $3.

Introductions will take place before the championship match.
